He is her most dangerous temptation and now he is demanding her submission. Dare she take the risk?
Book one in the Regency Risks Series
Emotionally scarred in the horrific accident that took her husband's life, Lady Cranfield is imprisoned by her lingering terror of horses and carriages. She longed to be closer to the fascinating Earl of Ruel. She sensed intuitively that he could teach her how to overcome the terrors that held her in bondage.
And now she's willing to risk almost anything-her reputation, even her virtue-to find out. But what he proposes startles her.
When the shy, studious and socially awkward young widow approached him, Ruel instantly sensed she would be the sweetest, most submissive experience of a lifetime-if only he can gain her total and complete trust. He makes her a non-negotiable offer. His help in return for her submission and obedience.
But Lady Cranfield grew up neglected by her ducal parents, raised by servants and then later ignored by her handsome, charming husband. She's learnt to protect her heart at all costs and she trusts no one but herself.
How can the jaded Earl of Ruel break through her self-protective defences and show her how to love when he has spent his lifetime avoiding that tender trap?

If you like your historical romances erotic with some light bdsm then this is the book for you! Anne and Jon make a wonderful dominant and submissive pair. The steamy connection between them is undeniable. The historical context is a great background in which these two characters come alive. My only caveat was how much Anne vacillates back and forth in her feelings for Jon. It got tedious after a while. I am going to try the next in the series...Trust Me.Product details

A Measured Risk Regency Risks Book 1 edition by Natasha Blackthorne Jon Rauch Romance eBooks Reviews
So I only read 3 books based in the regencies era! And by far this one is my favorite! I loved it! Couldn't put it down! Natasha Blackthorne writes beautifully and I am going to read more of her books! I hope this book is part of a series or a sequel because I would love to read more about Ruel and Anne's life and how it would develop! And the sex scenes are so hot and steamy! I was just captivated ! It's a must read historical romance !!
So Ah-Mazing! I love this story! It was so sexy, so emotional, so thrilling I couldn't put it down! It's my idea of a perfect story..light BDSM, historical setting and very engaging plot all in one! The Earl might dominate in the bedchamber but Anne dominates Jonathon's heart in every way! So Romantic!!
I am getting more than a little bored with the type of cooky cutter erotica that appears in most Regencies these days (you know, the same tired 50 pages that every publisher seems to insist that their authors insert into every book, and that I now tend to skip over to keep going with the story).
This is not one of those! Instead, this is a genuinely well written, genuinely steamy romance whose only flaw is that the eroticism is the main event rather than just a complement to the plot.
Though this is not a genre I typically read, I thought this book was well written. The author does a good job of making the romance believable in that Anne and Jon become very attached to one another. They spend a month alone in a cottage spending a lot time relaxing, walking and doing everyday activities like caring for horses and cooking. Since Jon, Lord Ruel, was in the military for thirteen years I had no problem believing he could perform domestic chores. I have no idea if the character development is realistic as I could not relate to the heroine (I would hate to be treated that way), but it was interesting to glimpse a different life style that seems to be getting a lot of attention right now with the popularity of similar books. It was worth reading for .99 cents.
From the cover art and the blurb, I was certain that I would love every moment of "A Measured Risk." The woman on the cover isn't skinny or perfect, but a woman. Then to read her dedication talking about PTSD and modern BDSM, D/s practices and lifestyles- what a lovely touch. I enjoyed getting to know the character of Lady Cranfield and her history, about her unhappy marriage and how one accident changed her life completely. Watching the young widow and the dashing Ruel interact kept me reading long after I should have gone many a night. The subtle interplay between them as he took the control that she uncertainly gave carried a fascinating story; of course it doesn't generally work that easily or well in a modern D/s relationship where a Dominant is trying to help a submissive, but I found how much Natasha managed to show within a historical romance wonderful. I most definitely loved that the story was told from Lady Cranfield's perspective; how rich it was to read her inner thoughts as she struggled to come to terms with what she wanted from Ruel, the propriety of her wishes, and how he helped her recover from her trauma. I was delighted to find how arousing, how graphic the sex scenes where within the period of the group. I look forward to reading other of Natasha's books.
If you like your historical romances with an erotic edge, this is deffo a read for you. What I really enjoyed about this book (and the rest in the series) is that the author takes the time to build credible characters, firmly anchored in their time and age. Anne's life is restricted by the simple fact that she is a woman, Jon's life is equally regimented - yes, as a man and a titled one at that he can indulge himself, but only to a point. Ms Blackthorne has obviously done her historical research, thereby adding depth and vibrancy to all her delicious and steamy scenes.
This book is an erotic, steamy, historical romance. It contains graphic bondage, dominance, and submission.
This story revolves around two enjoyable characters, Anne and Jon. The prologue describes a terrible carriage wreck during which one of the horses tragically kills her husband. After that, she suffers from PTSD. The love she had for horses turns into terror. She already has low self esteem, and comes across as cold and aloof when around others. Jon sees that she has the potential for more. He feels a need to hold others at arms length. He is a player, and has a reputation as a love them and leave them sort of man. He doesn’t want to become responsible for any sort of attachment to another, but eventually decides that he can use dominance to break down her walls and teach her to trust. Can he make this work even when his own heart is locked away?
I really like this book. The characters feel real, and the plot is enjoyable. Author Natasha Blackthorne does a great job of world-building and character development. 4 stars
